Orchard Software Releases Correlation to Scott Foresman Reading Street© Basal
ST. LOUIS, Mo., December 16 , 2008 -- Orchard Software announced today the release of its correlation to the new Scott Foresman Reading Street program. Orchard’s award-winning language arts program, Vocabulary Builder, is now shipping with the Reading Street correlation allowing educators to supplement the classroom’s adopted reading series with computer-based learning. The link to daily instruction helps boost the effectiveness of their overall educational program.
“The addition of the Reading Street correlation continues Orchard’s commitment to staying current with and supporting core classroom instruction,” said Bill Edwards, president of Siboney Learning Group, publisher of Orchard Software. “Programs like Vocabulary Builder reinforce classroom work with engaging interactive lessons.”
In addition to on grade-level, generic word lists provided in the program, educators may choose from available words lists correlated to popular textbooks. Vocabulary Builder is designed to increase the reading rates of students by providing repeated exposure to vocabulary words in a variety of contexts resulting in better oral and visual word recognition.
This group of programs introduces new vocabulary words in meaningful sentence contexts, offering students opportunities to preview word lists, practice the words, and take spelling tests to ensure word mastery. General word lists have been compiled using Dolch words, basic sight vocabulary, high-frequency words, and functional word lists. Teachers may also enter their own word lists. Students are engaged through eight different types of activities such as Word Volcano, Word Chaining, Word Crunch, and more.
Vocabulary Builders is designed for early reading curriculum grades kindergarten through six and remediation for grades 7-12 and supports ESL learning. It is available for Windows and Macintosh platforms. Orchard’s language arts programs include 68 K-9 programs on reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and usage.
